Bone Grafting

When teeth go missing, the roots are no longer stimulating the jawbone, which means the bone isn’t receiving the blood flow and nutrients it needs to sustain its structure and strength. This results in jawbone erosion, which can prevent dental implants from being able to undergo osseointegration. In these situations, a bone graft may be necessary to provide the jawbone with adequate volume for the dental implants to fuse with it.

The procedure involves exposing the bone and adding either bone from another part of the body, a donor, or artificial bone to improve its density. Once the graft integrates with your existing bone and you’ve healed from your treatment, you’ll be ready for dental implant placement.

Sinus Lifts

The maxilla, which is the upper part of the jaw, is home to the maxillary sinuses, which help with breathing and immune defense. When the bone is thin, whether that’s because of genetics or jawbone erosion, it could make placing dental implants on the top arch difficult due to risking piercing these sinuses. Dr. Ahn can gently shift the sinuses upward to ensure they don’t become damaged due to your dental implant surgery, placing additional bone beneath them for extra protection. This will ensure you enjoy the best results without risking post-operative complications.

Gum Grafting

Due to common oral health concerns like gum disease, as well as aging, the soft oral tissue that supports your teeth and will soon help stabilize your dental implants, can recede, or thin. This may lead to a higher risk of peri-implantitis after your dental implant surgery, and in turn, implant failure. To minimize this risk, we can complete a gum graft to help strengthen and add additional covering to your teeth and dental implants, reducing your risk of infection and adding extra support for your smile.

PRF Therapy

Whether you’re getting your teeth extracted, having dental implants placed, or receiving a bone graft, PRF/PRP therapy (Platelet Rich Fibrin or Platelet Rich Plasma) can help speed up and support your healing process. In a centrifuge, Dr. Ahn will spin a small sample of your blood to separate the red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. He then injects the platelets into the surgical site to accelerate the body’s natural healing process and reduce your healing time. It’s easy, safe, and poses virtually no risks.

Soft Tissue Laser Dentistry

Our oral surgery office is equipped with a state-of-the-art soft tissue laser to help seamlessly and precisely remove severely infected gum tissue, leaving only healthy tissue behind. Instead of using a scalpel and sutures, we’re able to use a concentrated beam of light to quickly and painlessly remove the tissue as well as cauterize it on-contact. This reduces post-operative bleeding and discomfort as well as minimizes healing time.

CBCT KaVo Scanner

Dr. Ahn is incredibly detail-oriented, ensuring that every aspect of your oral surgery is thoroughly planned. That’s why he invests in the latest technology, like our KaVo cone beam CT scanner, which allows our team to capture a detailed view of your entire facial structure. After less than a minute, Dr. Ahn will be able to view the location of your facial sinuses, the density of your jawbone, and your facial nerves, allowing him to plan your dental implant placement, bone graft, sinus, lift, or other surgical procedure to minimize any chances of post-operative complications.
